Chris Woakes is Comfortable with India Test Omission Despite Ashes Success: 2023-24 Tour to India

1 min read

Chris Woakes has expressed acceptance for being excluded from England’s Test squad for India. Describing it as a “fair decision”, he has given in to the idea of being a home specialist, acknowledging that his performance has been better at home rather than away. Despite his success during The Ashes, Woakes’ recent experiences have led him to believe that it’s wise for him to sit out tours to the subcontinent. With a focus on white-ball cricket, Woakes sees this as a manageable and reasonable decision, understanding the value he brings to England in home conditions. Despite his frustrations about not being able to perform well overseas, he is focused on excelling in white-ball cricket and will be participating in the ILT20 for Sharjah Warriors instead of touring India. Engaging in T20I matches and staying open to ODI cricket, Woakes has no intention of retiring anytime soon. Moving forward, he is committed to making the most of opportunities that come his way, including effectively managing his time as the ICC implements a stop-clock trial to speed up the game.
