In the forthcoming series in Bangladesh, New Zealand have assembled a squad with five spinning options. In there are Rachin Ravindra and Glenn Phillips. Ravindra, who was previously left out of the team after a surprising defeat to Bangladesh, has been included once more after a standout ODI World Cup campaign in which he scored 523 runs. Ajaz Patel will lead the spin attack, while Mitchell Santner likewise makes a comeback to the Test side. Santner, who had a solid domestic season with Northern Districts, ended a match with four wickets in Hamilton. Ish Sodhi and Glenn Phillips complete the spin lineup. Saqlain Mushtaq, New Zealand’s temporary spin-bowling coach for the tour, will supplement their coaching staff. Trent Boult will be unavailable for the series after choosing not to be included in the squad selection. Matt Henry, who returned home following an injury during the T20 World Cup, was selected as one of three frontline seamers in the 15-man squad. Kyle Jamieson has also recovered from injury and is set for his first Test since February. Also included in the squad are Henry Nicholls and Tom Blundell. Luke Ronchi will take over as interim coach for the Bangladesh series, with Shane Jurgensen leaving his position after the World Cup. Daniel Flynn (batting coach) and Jacob Oram (fast-bowling coach) will also assist. New Zealand’s last visit to Bangladesh was ten years ago, with their scheduled trip in 2020 having been canceled due to Covid-19.
