Lancashire’s chairman believes that the Hundred should be a T20 competition by 2025. The ECB is considering opening the tournament up to private investment. The Hundred is secure for the next five seasons and could see changes in ownership ahead of the 2025 edition.
The Telegraph reported that the ECB may give host counties equity stakes in their teams and consider adding two new clubs. Lancashire’s chair believes that the Hundred should become a T20 competition to align with franchise cricket.
Anson says that the Hundred no longer needs a unique format and should “fall in line” with franchise cricket by shifting to T20. He also believes that to attract the world’s best players, private investment is required. He stated that the current salary limits are lower compared to other leagues, and the Hundred will drop down the pecking order without improvement.
The chair of MCC will consult with members next week to discuss private investment in the Hundred. Anson also stated that Lancashire will consult members despite having a sustainable debt of £30 million after investment in Emirates Old Trafford. He mentioned that the county would like an injection of capital in the near future.
