The Women’s Premier League’s second edition is set to take place in one state of India, starting in the second or third week of February. BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed this after the WPL auction in Mumbai, emphasizing the importance of logistics and hinting at potential venues in Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat.
Last year, the first edition of the WPL was only played in Mumbai, but Shah suggested that future editions could potentially expand to other cities or states. The auction for the upcoming WPL saw uncapped Indian players Kashvee Gautam and Vrinda Dinesh receiving top pay cheques.
The ongoing international season for India women, featuring series against England and Australia, is also being played solely in Mumbai. When asked about the possibility of playing in other cities or states, Shah mentioned that the domestic season will determine the availability of venues. He expressed that there are matches happening in places like Gujarat, Chandigarh, and Ranchi, indicating a potential for broader geographical reach in the future.
