Lancashire signs New Zealand batter Tom Bruce as 2nd overseas player for 2024. The 32-year-old will join in April and, like Australia’s Nathan Lyon, expected to be available in all formats for full season. Bruce, capped 17 times in T20Is, averages 49.85 in first-class cricket. He will help cover for Dane Vilas’ departure after seven seasons at Lancashire. His most recent New Zealand appearance was in 2020. He captained the A side to victory against Australia A last September. His availability during the T20 World Cup was a factor in his signing. Mark Chilton, Lancashire’s director of cricket performance, emphasized Bruce’s availability throughout the 2024 season. “Tom is hugely experienced and we believe that his skillset will be a good fit within our squad,” Chilton said. Bruce’s availability during the T20 World Cup provides a valuable addition to the squad. Lancashire finished mid-table in County Championship Division One last year. “This is a really exciting opportunity for me,” Bruce said. “To have the opportunity to spend a full county cricket season with a club like Lancashire is a dream come true.”
