Pakistan batter Mohammad Haris has returned home after he was denied a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) by the PCB to play in the Bangladesh Premier League. Haris was initially part of the Chattogram Challengers squad, but the PCB realized that he had already participated in the stipulated two overseas T20 tournaments for the period between July 2023 and July 2024. Haris had played in the Lanka Premier League and the Global T20 Canada in July and August last year, representing B-Love Kandy and Surrey Jaguars, respectively.
Haris expressed his disappointment, stating that he had arrived in Bangladesh early to prepare for the tournament, only to find out that the NOC would not be issued. He thanked the Chattogram team management and the BCB for the opportunity, but acknowledged that he would not be able to play any games without the NOC. Haris expressed hope that he would be able to join the team next year and expressed his regret at missing out on playing in the BPL.
The Chattogram Challengers had a mixed start to the season, winning their first match against Sylhet Strikers before losing to Khulna Tigers in the second game. The franchise is yet to announce a replacement for Haris.
