The ICC suspended SLC on November 10 for a “serious breach of its obligations as an ICC Member” related to government interference in cricket governance. However, the ICC Board is now satisfied that SLC is in compliance and not in breach of its obligations. The suspension initially resulted in the relocation of the men’s Under-19 World Cup from Sri Lanka to South Africa, but there were no immediate disruptions to cricket in Sri Lanka at other levels. The ICC’s annual funding for Sri Lanka would be controlled until the suspension is lifted. Despite political interference in the SLC board, it was the elected board that was in charge during the suspension. This was the second suspension of an ICC Full Member, following the suspension of Zimbabwe Cricket in 2019.
