Carey had a secure ODI position but lost it due to a form slump coinciding with the start of the World Cup. In Perth, he formed a sixth-wicket stand of 90 with Mitchell Marsh before receiving an unplayable ball from Aamer Jamal. Carey is hoping to lift a 2023 average of 23.76. He also kept tidily while playing with seven dismissals and hopes to get more opportunities to play T20 cricket during the winter.
