Alex Carey began 2023 fresh from his maiden Test century at the MCG, then faced challenges in front of and behind the stumps in India. He contributed to the World Test Championship final victory and experienced drama in the Ashes where his fortunes pivoted around a stumping. Carey had a secure ODI position but lost it due to a form slump coinciding with the start of the World Cup. In Perth, he formed a sixth-wicket stand of 90 with Mitchell Marsh before receiving an unplayable ball from Aamer Jamal. Carey is hoping to lift a 2023 average of 23.76. He also kept tidily while playing with seven dismissals and hopes to get more opportunities to play T20 cricket during the winter.
