Angelo Mathews was the first player to ever to be timed out in international cricket after his helmet strap broke in Sri Lanka’s World Cup group match against Bangladesh. Mathews was getting ready to take strike against Shakib Al Hasan when his helmet strap broke. He called for a replacement helmet but was run out by the time the new helmet was brought to him. Mathews was informed that he was timed out as he was not ready to face his first ball within the two minutes allowed in the ICC playing conditions. During the innings break, the process behind the dismissal was explained. Mathews left the field visibly annoyed by the mode of dismissal, kicking the helmet and chucking his bat away. His dismissal left Sri Lanka in trouble at 135 for 5, but Charith Asalanka scored a hundred which helped his side to recover to 279.
