1 min read

Sam Billings is stepping back from red-ball cricket after signing a white-ball-only contract with Kent. The contract extension runs until the end of the 2025 season and allows Billings to captain Kent in the T20 Blast and pursue overseas opportunities in franchise cricket. Billings expressed gratitude for the club’s openness and understanding during discussions around his future. He highlighted the challenges of juggling all cricket formats, especially with the arrival of his first child, prompting him to find more balance on and off the field. Billings, who has played for England in Test matches and limited-overs internationals, plans to focus more on playing in T20 leagues. Despite stepping down as red-ball captain, he remains committed to representing Kent and is excited about captaining the Kent Spitfires in T20. Simon Cook, Kent’s Director of Cricket, praised Billings and expressed the club’s pleasure in having him for at least another two seasons.
