Ricky Ponting, the legendary former Australian captain, could be the biggest signing for Major League Cricket’s Washington Freedom. He is currently in discussions to take on coaching duties for the team. Ponting is weighing the decision to commit to coaching in the US-based MLC and commentating for the T20 World Cup in June, which will be held in North America and the Caribbean. The MLC’s second edition is scheduled to start just four days after the T20 World Cup final in Barbados on June 30. If Ponting joins, he will be the highest-profile signing for MLC, which debuted last year and has financial backing from IPL sides. Ponting, who will coach the Delhi Capitals in the IPL for a sixth year, is also considering potentially commentating the T20 World Cup. The former cricketer has previously coached the Mumbai Indians and worked as an assistant in the Australian set-up. Despite the busy schedule, Ponting enjoys coaching and working to improve players while aiming for victories. Former Australian team-mate Shane Watson previously coached the San Francisco Unicorns in the MLC. Star players like Aaron Finch, Dwayne Bravo, Rashid Khan, and Quinton de Kock have also been involved in the league.
