In the T20I match, India chose to bowl first against Afghanistan.

India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, won the toss and decided to bowl for the first time in more than a year in a T20I match. Rohit’s last appearance in a T20I match was during the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.

India decided to go with just two main fast bowlers, Arshdeep Singh and Mukesh Kumar, on a greenish Mohali pitch in cold weather. Avesh Khan was not included, while Shivam Dube, a seam-bowling all-rounder from Mumbai and Chennai Super Kings, made the team. Additionally, India selected three spinners – Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, and Washington Sundar. Jitesh Sharma was chosen as the wicketkeeper over Sanju Samson.

Afghanistan’s captain, Ibrahim Zadran, also said he would have chosen to bowl first if given the opportunity. Zadran is leading Afghanistan while designated captain Rashid Khan is recovering from back surgery and will not be playing in the entire series against India.
Rahmat Shah, who has played 106 ODIs and seven Test matches, made his T20I debut for Afghanistan. The 30-year-old last played a T20 game in July 2022. The visitors selected just two spinners, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi.
