Two Players Fulfill Desire to Represent Country: Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen Ul Haq in Afghanistan Squad

1 min read

In response to the Afghanistan Cricket Board’s (ACB) statement about players prioritizing personal interests over representing Afghanistan, the players have expressed their desire to play for their country again. The ACB has acknowledged this desire and praised the players for their willingness to work closely with the board. However, an investigation into the matter will proceed as per the board’s orders.

T20I captain Rashid Khan missed the UAE series due to back surgery, with Ibrahim Zadran standing in for him. Meanwhile, Mujeeb, Naveen, and Farooqi have also been active in various T20 leagues and were part of Afghanistan’s 2023 World Cup squad.

Despite the sanctions from the ACB, Mujeeb, Naveen, and Farooqi have continued to play in leagues such as the BBL and IPL, with Mujeeb picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders for USD 241,000. However, the investigation by the ACB will proceed, and the board has directed the relevant committee to conduct a comprehensive investigation and provide their findings and proposed solutions to the board.
