Unconventional Confidence: Phoebe Litchfield’s Reversed-Sweep Mentality

1 min read

The multi-talented Phoebe Litchfield is making her mark in cricket with gravity-defying catches and stylish batting. Her teammate Jemimah Rodrigues joked that after getting dismissed due to one of Litchfield’s brilliant catches, she didn’t want to be friends with her anymore. Known for her reverse-sweeps, she displayed this shot several times in her first women’s Hundred season and WBBL in recent years. Her exceptional skills led Gujarat Giants to spend a significant amount to secure her for WPL 2024. In the three-match ODI series against India, Litchfield played the reverse-sweep 12 times, scoring 22 runs. Although she recognized the need to improve her conventional sweep shot, she is confident in her skills and ability to control the ball. Despite feeling the pressure at times, she managed to score 260 runs in the ODIs, including two fifties and a hundred. At only 20 years old, Litchfield is already being compared to former Australia captains Meg Lanning and Belinda Clark, a feat she finds to be a “huge honor.” With an impressive start to her international cricket career, it’s not far-fetched to consider Phoebe Litchfield as one of the best batters in the world over the next five years.
