Usman Khawaja cautions against promoting Marnus Labuschagne to opener following David Warner’s departure: Australia news

Khawaja insisted that Labuschagne should continue to bat at No.3. He believed that opening the batting is very difficult and risky. Khawaja emphasized that it can be tough mentally and should not be taken lightly. He is against Travis Head permanently moving up to open. Khawaja’s argument is interesting as he transitioned from being a No. 3 to an opener himself. Despite the fact that he did not open for his state side Queensland, Khawaja believes that one of the three specialist openers currently in contention for the national team – Matt Renshaw, Marcus Harris and Cameron Bancroft – should open when David Warner finishes his Test career. He however refused to share his preferred choice and expressed willingness to leave the decision to the national selectors.
