Two crucial late wickets set up an absorbing final day in the Sheffield Shield match between Victoria and Queensland.

The home side were 156 for 6 in their second innings, leading by 237. Victoria had a strong partnership with Sutherland and Kellaway before crucial breakthroughs by Swepson and Guthrie.

Victoria now needs a solid contribution from their lower order, while Queensland looks to their top order to handle the new ball in their run chase.

Queensland’s Bazley is out due to a hamstring injury, but Guthrie has performed well, taking 4 for 38 from 10 overs.

“To keep them to a lead of 230 is good for us,” Guthrie said. “To have them six down at stumps is a good effort.”

The visitors resumed on 106 for 5 and made a strong start before Victoria’s bowlers limited their first-innings advantage.

Sutherland played an outstanding innings, hitting nine fours and two sixes off 77 deliveries. Kellaway’s aggressive play was cut short by Swepson.

“It’s definitely turned into a bit of a new-ball wicket.. we’re going to need to be really positive tomorrow morning,” Sutherland said.
