Victoria posted 201 for 4 (Harris 73, Handscomb 66) against Queensland. Victoria struggled on the first day of their Sheffield Shield clash with Queensland at the MCG. On a tough, green pitch, Victoria carefully navigated their way through after being asked to bat by Usman Khawaja. Marcus Harris, a contender for the Test team, scored a patient 73 in front of national selector Tony Dodemaide. Harris, along with Cameron Bancroft, is in contention to replace David Warner. Peter Handscomb, also a Test prospect, scored 66 before getting out caught behind to Jack Wildermuth. Queensland had significant withdrawals of bowlers Michael Neser and Mark Steketee due to personal reasons and illness. Liam Guthrie was called in as a replacement for Queensland. Will Pucovski, who hasn’t been in his best form this season, was dismissed for 5 by Guthrie. With Test spinner Todd Murphy resting, Doug Warren made his first-class debut for Victoria. Both teams have struggled this season, occupying the bottom two spots on the table with only one win each from their first four matches.
