Investigation Launched by ICC into Alleged Fake Cricket Matches in France

2 min read

The ICC is investigating allegations that France Cricket (FC) organized rigged games to demonstrate its dedication to women’s cricket in the country in order to secure funding from the global body. The claims originated from a report by France24, revealing that a former French women’s national team member and board member, Tracy Rodriguez, discovered that the so-called matches were actually non-existent. The ICC is taking these allegations seriously, and an investigation is expected to commence, although it is unclear whether the ACU (Anti-Corruption Unit) will be involved. Rodriguez, who served on the board in 2021 but left earlier this year, decided to act on her suspicions that the number of women’s games being reported by the board were false. She visited locations where matches were supposed to be happening but observed no activity. France24 conducted a similar investigation and found no games taking place, despite the matches being listed as completed online after the fact. The report details the funding that FC receives from the ICC and how much of it is allocated to the development of women’s cricket and junior cricket. The report also includes quotes from individuals involved in the game in France expressing concern about the situation. FC has asserted its right to respond to the allegations.
