Aaron Finch is retiring from professional cricket and will play his last match for the Melbourne Renegades on Saturday night. Finch, who suffered a back injury on December 23 and has only played four games this season, will bid farewell to the BBL after being granted a farewell game against Melbourne Stars. Finch, the competition’s second leading run-scorer and a key figure in the BBL for 13 seasons, revealed that he might get emotional in his BBL farewell game. Finch, who captained Renegades to their lone BBL title in 2018-19 and ranks seventh in all T20 cricket, admitted that the transition from international to franchise cricket has been a challenge.
In addition to recounting his 2018-19 title win, Finch also spoke favorably about playing home games at Marvel Stadium. His Renegades and Australia teammate Adam Zampa expressed gratitude for Finch’s contributions to the competition and hailed the exciting opportunity to say goodbye to him. Finch is expected to transition to full-time commentary after his farewell game but is excited about the future of the BBL given its resurgence this season, anticipating that it will attract more Test players, improving the overall standard of the competition.
