IL T20 Announces New Rule Allowing Franchises to Sign Two Wildcard Players

1 min read

The ILT20 has introduced a new rule that allows franchises to sign two wildcard players from the second season onwards. Franchises will be allowed to spend a maximum of $250,000 on these direct signings. This is in addition to the $2.5m purse given to build a squad of 22 players. The wildcard signings are optional and can be added to the squad at any point before or during the season. If a franchise has already used up its purse, it can spend a maximum of 10% of the purse to secure wildcard players, as long as the signing is within the $250,000 limit. It has also been clarified that wildcard players cannot be replaced with new wildcard signings. The ILT20 is the third franchise league after the Hundred and SA20 to introduce wildcard players. In addition to the wildcard option, the ILT20 has also allowed teams to bring in a Super-sub during a match, with the condition that a minimum of two UAE players must be part of the playing XI at all times.
