Melbourne Stars’ Sam Harper Hospitalized Following Head Injury in BBL Match

2 min read

Melbourne Stars wicketkeeper Sam Harper suffered a severe blow to the head during training at the MCG ahead of the game against Sydney Sixers. He was struck in the head while batting in the nets, causing a severe cut near his throat and requiring immediate medical attention from the Stars team.

Harper was conscious and stable when he was taken to the hospital. Given his history of concussions, his situation will be treated with caution. Unfortunately, he will be unable to play in the upcoming match, and the Stars do not have a backup wicketkeeper on their list.

Former Stars player and Victoria limited-overs captain Peter Handscomb is likely to be brought in as a replacement. Handscomb has kept for Australia in T20 international cricket and has previous experience playing in the BBL for various teams. He does not have a BBL contract and was set to play grade cricket in Melbourne, but he will now likely join the Stars for the upcoming match.

Harper’s condition will be closely monitored, and he is expected to undergo several scans during his hospital stay. It is a setback for the Stars, but they are fortunate to have a player like Handscomb who can step in at short notice.
