The IPL Auction Failure: Karun Nair Returns to Northamptonshire

Karun Nair is set to return to Northamptonshire for seven County Championship matches in April and May, following his failure to attract any bids in the IPL auction. Last season, Nair joined Northants for the final three games in a bid to avoid relegation to Division Two, and his brief stint was a success. He scored 78, 150, and 21 in his three innings, leading Northants’ head coach, John Sadler, to declare Nair as his “main target” for 2024.

Sadler praised Nair’s incredible runs and his temperament, expressing delight in having him back on the team for the upcoming season. Nair’s availability was uncertain until mid-December due to the possibility of IPL commitments, but after going unsold, he is now committed to the first seven Championship games.

Nair expressed his excitement in returning to Northamptonshire for County Championship cricket, aiming to win games, get promoted, and contribute significantly with the bat. Despite a brief international career with India, highlighted by an unbeaten 303 against England in 2016, Nair remains determined to make an impact for Northants and help secure victories.
