Brisbane Heat triumphed over Melbourne Renegades at Marvel Stadium with a clinical six-wicket victory. Jake Fraser-McGurk smashed his maiden BBL half-century, but Paul Walter produced a strong all-round performance for the Heat as they overcame the onslaught. Renegades, who are yet to win a game, will be disappointed not to have capitalized on Fraser-McGurk’s early fireworks. However, Fraser-McGurk, who has had a breakout season, holed out before the drinks interval off Walter’s first delivery.
Walter, a surprise selection by Heat in the BBL draft, continued his strong start to the season by claiming the pivotal wickets of veteran Aaron Finch and Will Sutherland. Heat got off to a fast start in their chase through openers Josh Brown and Colin Munro, and despite a late flurry from Jono Wells, Heat clinched their third straight victory to start the season.
