The Australia A allrounder, Will Sutherland, has signed to play for Somerset in the upcoming County Championship and T20 Blast. Due to arrive in April, he will stay for the group stages of the Blast until mid-July, subject to the conclusion of Victoria’s Sheffield Shield campaign. Sutherland was forced to withdraw from playing for Essex in the 2023 summer after being diagnosed with a back stress fracture. He expressed his excitement about joining Somerset, citing the club’s championship pedigree and Blast title in 2023 as factors that resonated with his ambition. Sutherland also captains Victoria in the Shield and has taken 115 first-class wickets at 25.32, as well as scoring a maiden century during the 2022-23 season. Andy Hurry, Somerset’s director of cricket, praised Sutherland’s talent and expressed confidence in his potential for full international honours.
